Burton in Wonderland

I always get excited by the news of a new Burton film, hoping that the next one might be as good as Ed Wood, Beetlejuice or Sleepy Hollow, but even if it's not this one looks like it might just surpass his past visual brilliance. It's shaping up to be what Return to Oz is to The Wizard of Oz, a much creepier tale of a grown up Alice returning to Wonderland.

I've lost a bit of love for Burton since Planet of the Apes. I was looking forward to his Willy Wonka, thinking he'd surely make it creepier than the original, but he didn't deliver.. But Sweeney Todd was brilliant, so I've not wrote him off completely.

My expectations aren't high for Alice yet, but Matt Lucas as Tweedledum and Tweedledee is inspired.

I know what you mean. I cannot watch the Planet of the Apes remake, it's so badly plotted, I have no empathy for anything going on. There's one scene where they're talking about rugs for about five minutes. But yes, Big Fish was saccharine, Wonka was a theme park ride and Sweeney Todd was great. We can only wait and see for Alice.

I'm still hopeful that this will be good, but I have to say creepy, dark, adult fairy tale is almost as overdone as creepy, dark, adult superhero.

I looked through all the pictures when these came out. The images look amazing and have got me very excited for the film and now I have to wait until March 2010. Rubbish!

I agree with what Mike said. I'm a bit sick of the whole Burton/Depp/styles "Return to Oz" is one of my favourite kids films sooo creepy, I think this is likely to just be like all the other Burton films. Sweeney Todd was the last straw for me, I wish he'd left Alice in Wonderland alone. Boo you Burton!

I agree with most of the above but I also think Burton does Wonderland sounds pretty amazing.
